Tours of Wright's Robie House and Historic Neighbors

Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House is located at 5757 S. Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, on the campus of the University of Chicago.

Select from a variety of tour options below to experience this masterpiece and its architecturally rich environs. All tours support the restoration, preservation and education programs of the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust.

As the Robie House enters the final phase of an historic decade-long restoration, the icon of modern architecture will undergo a significant acceleration to the restoration construction to prepare for the home's 100th anniversary in 2010.

To accommodate the magnitude of the interior restoration construction and maintain a safe guest environment, tour offerings at the Robie House will be limited November 1, 2008 through October 31, 2009. Public tours will be conducted Saturdays from 11 am to 3 pm and advance ticket purchases are recommended.

Tickets

  • Entry into the museum is by guided tour only.
  • Day-of tickets may be purchased at the museum bookshop starting at 10 am daily.
  • Advance tickets are available for select daily tour departures. Tickets are available for sale online or by calling E-tix at 800.514.3849 until 8 am CST on the day of the tour. E-tix customer service hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm CST and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm CST. Tickets can be held for will-call pick up at museum.   • Groups of 10 or more must schedule a custom group tour at least two weeks in advance by calling 708.848.1978. Explore our Custom Tours options.

FOR MEMBERS
To reserve your free museum and neighborhood tour(s) in advance, please call the museum shop of the site you wish to visit between 9:45 and 10:30 am on the morning of the day you wish to visit.  Preservation Trust guest services staff will assist you in reserving the tour of your choice at a time convenient for you.

Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House is both a masterpiece of the Prairie style and an icon of modern architecture. Trained interpreters offer insights into the amazingly contemporary spaces Wright designed almost a hundred years ago, and the current restoration that is returning the building to its original splendor. Entry into the museum is by guided tour only.

Robie House Historic Neighbors Self-Guided Walking Tour

The architectural wealth of the University of Chicago neighborhood ranges from the venerable influence of Europe to the distinctly American design of the Robie House. Explore the area's architectural diversity on a self-guided audio walking tour. The walking tour is wheelchair accessible.

The Wright 3 Tour
Saturdays only

The central character in the novel The Wright 3 is Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House. Visit the mysterious spaces for yourself on this special tour for children and their families.

This tour is appropriate for children 6 and up.
