Free tours of Wright's Oak Park home decorated for the holidays. Led by Junior Interpreters, specially trained 5th through 10th grade students, the tours focus on Wright family celebrations of the Christmas holidays. An adult must accompany children under 8.

Wednesday, March 4
Enjoy a lecture, coinciding with the Burnham Centennial exhibition, exploring ways in which our society builds upon and/or preserves land. Two speakers will be presenting their opinions on this somewhat controversial topic. John D. Said from the City of Elmhurst’s Department of Planning, Zoning, and Economic Development, will discuss urban planning and specifically Elmhurst’s response to urban planning highlighting the principles and ideas used in the Burnham Plan. Robert Bruegmann, former UIC professor, will present his findings from his recent book titled Sprawl in which he examines the causes of urban sprawl and its historic presence in our nation.

Architectural Salvage Walk
March 2009
Join art historian Rolf Achilles to wander among the treasures of a few of Chicago’s noted architectural salvage shops. Achilles’ expertise in early twentieth century decorative objects, art glass, hardware, and the like will provide a new perspective on their context and possible re-use. A restaurant lunch is included. Space is limited.

Living Beautifully: Beautiful Spaces of the Home and Studio
Saturday, April 11
Experience the decorative arts collection and the intriguing spaces in Wright's Home and Studio. Learn about extraordinary Wright-designed furniture, vases, and light fixtures; Wright's approach to interior design in the Home and Studio; and fine and decorative arts collected by Wright during the early years of his career. Pieces vary from Japanese prints and original nature scene paintings to Arts and Crafts vases.

At Home Excursion: The Bradley House
Saturday, April 18
Join us to view a rarely-seen Wright Prairie style interior that is not yet open to the public, the B. Harley Bradley House in Kankakee, IL. In addition, we will view additional buildings designed by Wright and Prairie architect Walter Burley Griffin, and look at the residential housing provided for workers in the Pullman factory on the South side of Chicago (circa 1880).

Explore nature's role in Wright's designs with a multi-faceted event featuring a special tour of the Home and Studio, an exclusive display of nature drawings from the Preservation Trust's collection and a demonstration on creating Prairie-inspired botanical arrangements.
